All best practices have one system consistently in their portfolio across industries, whether it’s a manufacturing or service sector – a Learning and Development system. The challenge is maintaining the records separately under each best practice that results in a lot of record keeping. That being said, having a L&D offering that doesn’t impact the bottom line of your organization is no good. It would simply depict the superficial effort or fulfill training statistics and KPI’s without driving actual development.

Given our understanding of these crucial facets, we were approached by a Vinyl Flooring Manufacturing Company – that wanted to increase the productivity without hampering its’ harmony as they had a history of unions. It was a challenge in itself as the performance parameters were part of the MOU therefore chalked out a detailed intervention.
We started with an organization culture survey to identify areas of concern and strength. Using that we designed a four-day training program that catered to a series of soft skills and addressed issues to encourage a positive outlook. We ended the fourth day with a note that true change required initiative by one’s own self that would cascade to truly elevate the company in the coming years.
These sessions were conducted across the organization, covering all functions and discussing where they hoped their company would be in the next three to five years. After much discussion, we asked the pertinent questions, “What’s keeping them from having this dream status today?” We brainstormed impediments and it evolved that major gaps were in communications and interpersonal relationship issues among the participants that they themselves can sort it out. There were some areas of concern that needed intervention of the top management, they were ushered in to listen to the areas of concern some were resolved there and then while others got resolved over a period of time. This helped build an atmosphere of Trust in the organization.
To ensure all points discussed were implemented, we closely monitored the workplace. Online discussions and counseling sessions were also provided. This was followed by a review session to analyze productivity on regular intervals. After about 18 months of intervention the productivity of the organization increased from 75% to 94% with minimal investment and helped sustain the organization at a competitive level.
